During this past National Day, I went to Kashgar, a city in Xinjiang where a populus euphratica forest turns into a golden sea as autumn approaches. We visited the first Kashgar Agricultural Expo. According to official data, the exhibition hall occupied 10,000 square meters and attracted more than 200 companies and hundreds of personnel from more than 10 countries. Looking around the exhibition hall, how prosperous and harmonious the scene was — crowds of people, various exhibits, joyful voices and beaming faces everywhere. Some booths displayed local specialties, including Chinese winter dates, cantaloupes, bergamot pears, grapes, cherry tomatoes, Kashgar yoghurt, etc. The visitors densely besieged the booths. During lunchtime, many local delicacies such as lamb pilaf, shish kebabs and Xinjiang chicken stew were served. An Uygur friend helped us with the meals and patiently showed us how to eat them. We had a good time there. |
