Host detained for drug-related offences

    Police in Beijing have confirmed that TV host Wang Jing has been detained on suspicion of sheltering* others for the purpose of drug taking.

    A report in Beijing Times says Wang was detained after a police raid* at her home, along with a man who had been taking drugs.

    Both tested positive for drug use.

    Chiung Yao wins plagiarism case

    Chinese screenwriter* Yu Zheng and four other defendants were ordered to compensate Taiwan novelist Chiung Yao 5 million yuan (US$806,322) and make a public apology for plagiarizing* Chiung’s novel. The plagiarism case was on public trial on Christmas Day.

    Chiung pressed charges against Yu in May, claiming that the plot of the TV series “The Palace: The Lost Daughter” was almost completely copied without permission from her novel “Plum Blossom Scar.”

    Ariel Lin gets married on Christmas Eve

    Taiwan actress and singer Ariel Lin married her boyfriend Charles Lin on Christmas Eve in Taipei.

    The wedding banquet was held at the Ambassador Hotel Taipei.

    Only relatives and several close friends were invited — no celebrities.

    The couple began their relationship at a friend’s wedding in 2011, and got engaged in October.

    Pop singer detained

    Popular Chinese singer Yin Xiangjie has been detained over drug use and illegal possession of drugs, police said on Saturday.

    This was the latest case of a celebrity getting involved in drug offenses in the country.

    Beijing police arrested 45-year-old Yin in a residential community in Chaoyang District on December 25 and seized more than 10 grams of drugs.(SD-Agencies)
