‘The Interview’ surpasses US$40m

    “The Interview,” a Sony Pictures comedy, has racked up over US$40 million in sales from 5.8 million digital downloads, the studio said on January 20.

    Michael Lynton, chief executive of Sony Corp.’s entertainment arm, called the US$40 million mark “a significant milestone” for the studio’s unprecedented* online and pay television release on platforms such as Google Inc.’s Google Play, Apple Inc.’s iTunes and Time Warner Cable.

    Hathaway heading to the stage

    Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway will be playing something a little different this spring — an Air Force fighter pilot* in a one-woman stage show.

    The Public Theater said on January 21 that the Academy Award-winner will star in George Brant’s play “Grounded” starting on April 7. It tells the story of a fighter pilot reassigned to 12-hour shifts flying remote-controlled drones* after she gets pregnant.

    Michael Chen admits divorce

    Chinese actor Michael Chen, also known as Chen He, has recently confirmed rumors of his divorce from wife, Layla Xu.

    Previously, rumors of divorce spread like wildfire after a source claimed to have heard the news from a staffer at the Bureau of Civil Affairs in Fuzhou.

    It was further speculated that the couple ended their marriage due to the involvement of a third party — Chen’s “Laughter Medical Center” co-star Zhang Zixuan.

    Chen responded to the rumors and admitted to the divorce on January 22, revealing that he and his wife already called it quits six months ago, and that it was a peaceful separation.

    Mandy Moore, Ryan Adams divorcing

    Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore have filed for divorce after nearly six years of marriage.
