Chinese-American stage actor Telly Leung is set to join Tony Award winner Lea Salonga in the upcoming Broadway production of the musical “Allegiance.” Salonga and Leung are reprising their roles from the musical’s original 2012 staging in San Diego, California. They’ll be joined on stage by George Takei, who is making his Broadway debut in “Allegiance.” The musical was inspired by Takei’s experience as a child growing up in a Japanese-American internment camp. Salonga earned a Tony Award for “Miss Saigon,” her Broadway debut, while Leung has appeared in hits such as “Wicked” and “Godspell.” “Allegiance” is set during World War II, when thousands of Japanese-Americans were interred in camps. The show follows war veteran Sam Otsuka and his sister Kei as they find themselves torn between loyalty to their family and allegiance to their country. Leung is an actor, singer and songwriter. He is known for his many musical theater roles on Broadway and his role as a Dalton Academy Warbler in “Glee.”(SD-Agencies) |
