Georgina Campbell was the surprise winner at Sunday’s BAFTA TV Awards. The actress took home the prize for lead actress, in a category that included some of the biggest names in the United Kingdom. But 22-year-old Campbell was picked over Keeley Hawes, Sarah Lancashire and Sheridan Smith for her incredible performance in “Murdered by My Boyfriend.” The BBC show, which is based on a true, chilling story of domestic abuse, sees Campbell play Ashley. Teenage Ashley is on top of the world dating Reece, played by Royce Pierreson, until one day — when Ashley is pregnant with his child — he smashes her head into the wall. The result was a highly moving and hard hitting program, which is now showed in colleges to highlight the issue of domestic abuse. Campbell was gobsmacked to take home the award in such a tough category and hadn’t even prepared an acceptance speech. The award has made the actress become a household name overnight. (SD-Agencies) |
