10 magnificent river scenes across China (III)
    2015-06-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CHINA is known for its beautiful natural resources and magnificent scenery. Here are more magnificent river scenes that are worth visiting with family members and friends.

    Xiangjiang River,

    Hunan Province

The Xiangjiang River is the largest river in Hunan Province and one of the largest tributaries of the Yangtze River. It is also a symbol of the province of Hunan.

A journey along the Xiangjiang River is sure to teach travelers much about Hunan culture. Nearly all the major cities in the province are situated along the river, such as Changsha, capital of Hunan Province, Hengyang, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan.

The Hengshan Mountain in Hengyang City is also located in the area. It is the most important mountain in the area for its stunning scenery and long history of religious activities.

Changsha is another worth-visiting place as it offers historical sites such as Yuelu Academy, Mawangdui Tomb, Lushan Temple and Aiwan Pavilion.

The area is famous for its spicy cuisine.

Transport: Fly to Changsha from Shenzhen airport and get a river cruise from there.

    Wujiang River,

    Guizhou Province

The Wujiang River is the largest southern tributary of the Yangtze River. Nearly its entire length of 1,150 kilometers runs within the isolated, mountainous and ethnically diverse province of Guizhou before entering Sichuan Province.

There are many beautiful spots along the Wujiang River. One of the most famous spots is the Painted Corridor in Youyang County. The corridor is known for its isolated location, beautiful mountain and river scenes as well as ancient ethnic cultures. There are many ancient Miao villages in the area along the river, and some of the villages have a history of more than 500 years.

Transport: Fly to Guiyang, capital of Guizhou Province, from Shenzhen airport and take a coach to Youyang.

    Heilongjiang River,

    Heilongjiang Province

The Heilongjiang River, also known as the Amur River, is the world’s 10th longest river, forming the border between the Russian Far East and northeastern China. Its Chinese name means Black Dragon River and is also the name of the province.

For people from southern China, the river area is an ideal place to experience the culture and lifestyle of northern China. Jiejinkou in Tongjiang County, located in the downstream section of the river, is a popular place to explore the Hezhe ethnic group living on the snowy land. This fishing group has many unique festivals, lifestyles and customs.

Fresh fish is also a must-try when visiting the area.

Transport: Fly to Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province, from Shenzhen airport, and take a train to the river area.

    Fuchun River,

    Zhejiang Province

The Fuchun River is the upper reach of the Qiantang River in Zhejiang Province, known for its beautiful scenery and prosperity.

The farther you travel along the river, the greener the water becomes, just like a green snake zigzagging among mountains and peaks.

Major scenic sights along the river include Crane Hill (Guanshan Hill), Heavenly Prince Ridge (Tianzigang), Tongjun Hill, Fishing Terrace of Yan Ziling and Hulu Waterfall.

Crane Hill, located in Fuyang, is so named because a rock at the bottom of the hill resembles a crane. On top of the hill stands Fuchuan No.1 Tower, a place where you can get a bird’s-eye view of the beautiful mountain and river scene around and below you.

Transport: Fly to Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, and take a coach to Fuyang.
