Parent-child programs have become a massive hit among Chinese viewers. The child stars have become quite popular, leading many parents to invest large amounts of time and money in their children in the hopes they will become stars someday. A recent Xinhua article pointed out that the glut of parent-child programs, such as “Where Are We Going, Daddy?” and “Dad Is Back,” negatively influenced parents who wanted to earn quick success and instant benefits from exploiting their children. It notes that parents who want to turn their kids into TV stars could negatively influence the kids, who are likely to suffer psychological* effects. Some parents even invest heavily in albums for their children. The Xinhua article says that due to this phenomenon, a growing number of art and performing classes are charging high prices, making huge profits off these parents. One TV producer said that many kid stars talk and behave like adults, and too many commercial* activities are not good for children. Business insiders said that the demand for kid stars in China’s entertainment market is small. The sudden mad race for parents to make their kids into stars is mostly due to parents’ high expectations of their children.(SD-Agencies) |
