Recommended autumn family trips (II)
    2015-10-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

IT’S never easy to travel with children — it’s even harder to find a destination that will entertain both adults and children. Here are more recommended locations for a family getaway during the cozy autumn months.

    Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province

Tucked between scenic Huangshan Mountain and Sanqing Mountain, Wuyuan has been dubbed “the most beautiful countryside in China.” Although the most popular season in Wuyuan is in March and April, when golden canola flowers are in full bloom, it is still fun to explore the beauty of the ancient town in autumn.

Compared to the large crowds in the spring, autumn in Wuyuan is a quiet and relaxing heaven with colorful leaves and beautiful country scenes. It is a great opportunity to take your children to learn about traditional Chinese life and explore the ancient countryside.

Another recommended place in the neighboring area is Jingdezhen.

Known as the “capital of porcelain,” Jingdezhen has a long history and a magnificent culture. It is designated one of the 24 Chinese cities of historical and cultural interest. Pottery was first made here during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-A.D. 220). Since the Song Dynasty (960-1279), the imperial courts decreed the city would make porcelain wares for imperial use.

Besides learning the history of porcelain making and culture, there are many workshops for tourists in the area. It is fun to make some DIY artworks together with your children.

Other recommended tourist spots in the area include Huangshan Mountain, Sanqing Mountain, and Lushan Mountain.

Transport: Fly to Jindezhen in Jiangxi Province, and take a coach to Wuyuan.

    Liangzhu Village,

    Zhejiang Province

Liangzhu Culture Village is located near Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province. It has a landscape comparable to West Lake.

The small town was built to showcase traditional Chinese life, contemporary architecture and beautiful scenery.

One of the highlights of the village is a church designed by a Japanese architect. The main area for the worshippers in the church includes a Chinese tiled ceiling as well as rectangular French windows. Pervading the entire space is a rich smell of wood as the building itself, as well as its furnishings, were made from pinewood imported from Japan. The church is an ideal place to take family photos or produce a special album for your children.

As there are many beautiful mountains and rivers in the area; why not rent bicycles and enjoy a family cycling trip around the village.

Camping is also recommended. Unlike deep mountainous areas, the village offers better facilities and environments for children to experience outdoor fun.

Transport: Fly to Hangzhou from Shenzhen airport and take a taxi to the village.

    Zhejiang Kiln Park,

    Zhejiang Province

Zhejiang Kiln Park, located in Hangzhou, was restored from the former Hangzhou Port and Shipping Co. Dock Repair Shop. This lesser-known spot along the Grand Canal is one of the best places to enjoy the glamour of ceramics and pottery in town.

Covering an area of 57,000 square meters, it was comprised of seven single buildings and two pseudo-classic buildings. Now it has been turned into a creative park that specializes in ceramic crafts and porcelain art. It hosts ceramic exhibitions, galleries and contemporary art shows. Painters and artists settle down in the area and build studios, workshops, galleries and training centers.

This spot is a great choice for children to learn and experience Chinese porcelain culture. Workshops offer facilities and training classes for visitors to create their own artworks.

Within walking distance are stylish restaurants and trendy cafes.

Cycling is recommended when visiting this area.

Transport: Fly to Hangzhou from Shenzhen airport, and take a taxi to the park. (Wang Yuanyuan)
