UP to 233 sets of ancient relics from Rome will be on display in China in the coming year. That’s according to an agreement signed by museums in Italy and China in Chengdu, China, on Nov. 17. According to the agreement, the tour exhibition of ancient Roman Empire relics — “Eternal City, the Glory of Ancient Rome” — will be staged at four Chinese museums: the Chengdu Jinsha Site Museum, the Tianjin Museum, the Shandong Museum and the Yunnan Provincial Museum. The tour will stay at each venue for 80 days. The more than 200 sets of cultural treasures to be presented are from nine historical sites and museums around Rome, such as the Coliseum, the Palatine Museum, Emperor Nero’s Golden Palace, the National Museum of Rome, the Museum of Imperial Fora and the Museum of Gallo-Roman Civilization. A variety of objet d’art will be shown, including statues, architectural components, bronze ware, golden vessels, pottery works, glassware and other items. Many of the items will be in China for the first time, showcasing the achievements of Roman culture and art at its height. To enable Chinese audiences to fully experience ancient Roman culture, the exhibition will be co-curated and co-designed by Chinese and Italian experts. The show will be planned and presented on the basis of historical events, with memorable architecture and figures presented along a timeline. The exhibition will also feature multimedia displays.
