The famous mid-1990s Chinese pop star Mao Amin will hold a solo concert in Beijing to perform approximately 40 songs on December 31. In addition to her older pieces that audiences are quite familiar with, the singer said there might be some pleasant surprises. “At the concert, I’ll sing some songs that other people and even I used to think were impossible for me to sing. I will attempt songs that I was afraid to do before because they were a big challenge for my voice,” Mao said. In 2014, when she held a concert in Nanjing, the crowd went wild when Mao covered Jay Chou’s song “Chrysanthemums Terrace” or “Ju Hua Tai” in Chinese. When asked whether she’ll once again cover songs by other acts at the upcoming concert, Mao said her appetite for music is extensive*. “I am not intentionally* willing to cover other singers’ songs. There’s a rich variety of songs that I want to listen to, ranging from Chinese musical dramas, such as Kunqu and Guangdong operas, to catchy* pop songs. I am interested in knowing as much as possible about the field of music.” Mao is one of the most well-known singers in China. Her first single was released in 1986, and her hits include “Yearning” (“Ke Wang”) in 1990 and “Promise” (“Nuo Yan”) for the TV series “I Love My Family” (“Wo Ai Wo Jia”), which was shown from 1993 to 1994.
