Tan Yifan cicitan2011@gmail.com THE long-anticipated English guide and map for readers to explore the city’s architectures and planning was released at the main venue of this year’s Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture (UABB) on Saturday. The architecture guide, the Chinese version of which was available last year, includes all of the interesting buildings and complexes for each district in the city. It introduces the features, stories, design philosophies and designers of each architecture. Inside the book, readers can also find a tiny structure chart along with introductions. The same as the guide, the map marks all of the important sites, buildings, terrains, ancient villages, art and creative industrial zones. Huang Weiwen, co-writer of the book and director of Shenzhen City for Design, said his team felt that translating the book and map into English was of urgent importance because more and more architects and students are visiting Shenzhen. “Before the new version came out, I couldn’t find a pamphlet or a book that introduces the city’s planning and buildings for English speakers,” Huang said. “And as an innovative and international city, Shenzhen should have such a publication.” Huang said the both the book and map could be found at UABB’s main venue — Dacheng Flour Factory in Shekou — or at bookstores later this year. The book is priced at 80 yuan (US$12.6) and the map is priced at 20 yuan. |
