KRIS WU to be first spokesperson for ‘Super Girl’
    2016-03-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Chinese-Canadian actor Kris Wu will be the first spokesperson for Hunan Satellite TV’s renowned singing competition “Super Girl.”

A photo of the pop idol filming the show’s trailer was unveiled on Sina Weibo.

Shooting to fame as a former member of K-pop boy group EXO, Wu is currently active in China as an actor and singer.

The 25-year-old star has released several singles such as “Bad Girl” and a remake of the classic Chinese rock song “Girl in the Flower Room.”

He is now shooting scenes for French director Luc Besson’s new science fiction film “Valerian” and “City of a Thousand Planets” along with Vin Diesel and Donnie Yen.

Wu became the first ethnically Chinese player to participate in the NBA’s annual All-Star Celebrity Game on February 13. Wu played for Team Canada against Team USA, ultimately helping to clinch an upset win for the former with six points and seven rebounds, for a finish of 74-64.

Launched in 2004 with tens of millions of viewers, the “Super Girl” contest is now in its sixth season.

Partly inspired by the U.S. show “American Idol,” many popular Chinese female singers such as Li Yuchun, Zhou Bichang and Zhang Liangying were discovered on “Super Girl.”
