New school valuing science education built in Nanshan
    2016-03-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A new nine-year school will be built in Nanshan District, with a focus on science education. The school was a joint project between the Nanshan District Education Bureau and the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

To be located near the Antuoshan area next to Beihuan Boulevard, the school, named SIAT Experimental School, is expected to enroll 1,680 students across the nine grades. The school is going to enroll four classes of Grade 1 students and four classes of Grade 7 students in September this year.

What’s unique about the new school is that it will incorporate an array of curriculum and projects with a key focus on science subjects. With strong academic support from SIAT, the school will provide education on intelligent equipment, maker education and robotics.

Also, famous scientists from home and abroad will be invited to give lectures and speeches at the school. For instance, Li Xiangyi, the winner of the UNESCO Kalinga Prize, and Nobel Prize winner Robert H. Grubbs are expected to provide guidance on the school’s science activities.

“The establishment of the school is a significant move for SIAT to bring our ideology of 3H (house, home, health) into practice with local communities,” said Fan Jianping, head of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology. (Zhang Qian)
