International percussion festival launches in Futian
    2016-05-09  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AN international percussion festival was launched in Futian District on April 30 and ran to May 8.

Held in Futian Cultural Hall and Shenzhen Stadium, it was the first international percussion event hosted at a stadium in China.

A total of 300 free tickets were given to city residents. Residents obtained free tickets by following the festival’s official WeChat.

Opened by South Korea’s famous drum cat troupe, the festival featured seven themed activities, including percussion competitions, lectures, exhibitions and forums. Two of the world’s top percussionists, Dave Weckl and Dom Famularo, performed together May 5 during a jazz concert, one of the signature events for the festival. It was the first time for the two American drummers to perform in Shenzhen.

Many top domestic and Asian musicians also performed at the festival. Among them were Zhang Ke, Izumi Koga, Liu Wei, Li Hao and Zhang Jiaxi.

Sponsored by Futian District’s cultural fund, the event aimed at promoting percussion among Shenzhen residents.
