WHEN the glitz and glam of Las Vegas meets the eccentric tastes of a legendary pop star — you get one hell of a house.
Michael Jackson’s mega mansion has just been put up for sale in Las Vegas, Nevada, for an eye watering US$9.5 million, with fans able to eat, sleep and lounge where the icon quietly lived out his days.
The singer never owned the giant sprawling property, deciding instead to rent it from 2007 until his death from a drug overdose in 2009, as a space for him and his children to live away from the glare of the public eye.
Dubbed the “Thriller Villa” in its listing, the completely walled-in property is 1.7 acres (0.68 hectares) and features a staggering 2,255-square-meter main house plus a 277-square-meter guest house and even its own medieval chapel.
Listed by Nevada celebrity agent Kristen Routh Silberman, the compound was built originally by theater owner Horst Schmidt in the 1950s in Mexico and transported brick-by-brick to Nevada.
It then changed hands a few times before it was rented to Jackson after he returned from his infamous time in Bahrain and the pop star decided he wanted to stay out of the public eye.
