Free a cappella show Sunday
    2016-May-31  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Two a cappella bands from Hong Kong will perform a joint concert at Shenzhen Concert Hall this Sunday afternoon.

Their program will include both English and Chinese songs such as “This Love,” “Mean” and “Love Is Doubt” originally sung by Hong Kong singer Eason Chan.

Republic-A, consisting of three male singers and two females, was founded in 2013. Having performed many times in public, the band has a rich repertoire featuring songs with distinctive styles.

Set Tone Men (STM), founded in 2011, is one of the few all-male a cappella bands in Hong Kong. STM has a diverse repertoire, including classical, pop and contemporary music, presented in extraordinary styles and arrangements.

The band attended the Taiwan International Vocal Festival 2012, where it won a silver medal in the World Contemporary A Cappella Competition. It was champion in the Open Division of the Hong Kong A Cappella Contest 2012 and got a gold prize in Hong Kong International A Cappella Contest 2013.

The band has received instruction from former Swingle Singers member Tobias Hug, Australian a cappella vocal ensemble the Idea of North, Taiwan a cappella pioneer Zhu Yuanlei and other masters. In 2012, the band was featured on “Christmas Concert in the Park” on RTHK. It was the only Asian a cappella band invited to perform at the Koshu A-Cappella Festival in Japan in 2013. The band also attended the Vocal Asia Festival in South Korea in 2014 representing Hong Kong.
