Words and work by Janine Rewell
    2016-June-2  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

For the first time, an internationally awarded European illustrator has been invited to showcase her work at the China Illustration Biennale (CIB), organized by illustration associations in Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao.

The final review judge of the 5th China Illustration Biennale, Janine Rewell from Finland, will give a lecture prior to the opening of her solo exhibition at Guan Shanyue Art Museum on Monday afternoon.

The exhibition will present a collection of Rewell’s work done over the past several years, showing the audience the breadth and variety of the modern illustration sector.

Throughout her career Rewell has sought new ways of communicating ideas and emotions by stretching the limits and roles of illustration. In the post-millennial illustration scene, with photoshop effects and digital collages, Rewell was one of the early developers of the iconic vector-style illustration. Her knowledge in visual communication and experience in design are the basis for a playful and bold illustration style capable of giving voice to thoughts, color to words and form to imagination.

Her work ranges from two-dimensional prints to wall paintings, object design to performance-based body painting for clients such as Nike, H&M and Samsung. Resisting prefabricated roles and the confines of an illustrator, Rewell works with her illustrations from design to construction.

The works presented in this exhibition are a collection of for-client work and personal projects inspired by a desire to experiment and play with new materials, mediums and messages.

    Lecture: 2 p.m., June 6

    Admission: Free

    Dates: June 6-13

Venue: Guan Shanyue Art Museum, 6026 Hongli Road, Futian District (福田区红荔路6026号关山月美术馆)
