Yuezhong Museum of Historical Images in Luohu District is recruiting volunteer stage performers for its museum theater project.

    The project is a side event for its ongoing exhibition of photographs by late Chinese photographer Hou Dengke (1950-2003). The plot will be based on Hou’s diaries, which were mainly about the life of farmers and migrant workers. Any Chinese speakers interested in acting can apply.

    Born in a village in Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, Hou was a worker and later an official for a railway company. He held his first photo exhibition in 1982. Farming and migrant workers are the themes of his black-and-white photography, recording social changes in modern China. The 300 exhibited photos in Shenzhen were selected from his works between 1978 and 2002.

    Museum theater is the use of theater and theatrical techniques by a museum for educational, informative, and entertainment purposes. Actors will portray historical characters, tell stories and portray a variety of cultures, using costumes, props, lighting, or special effects to convey historical or scientific facts.
