What used to be Tokyo Harajuku’s go-to place for quirky imported goods, cute objects and chic accessories, Bunkaya Zakkaten from Japan is exhibiting its products at Little Thing Shop. Some items are on sale.
Originally opened in 1974 on Shibuya’s Fire Dori, the shop moved to its Cat Street location in 1989 and was closed for good last year. The closure marked the end of a 40-year run for a Harajuku landmark.
Bunkaya Zakkaten has been a favorite stop for generations of Harajuku’s travelers looking for off-the-wall accessories to accent their unique outfits. In addition to unconventional fashion items and accessories, Bunkaya Zakkaten is famous for selling a variety of bizarre items, including teapots with quirky designs, illustrated bags, animal-shaped clocks, vintage clothes and more.
Bunkaya Zakkaten’s owner Yoshitaro Hasegawa once collaborated with Paul Smith on a series of handmade limited-edition goods.
