LU MAO creates Chinese ‘little prince’ and his fox
    2016-06-08  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Lu Mao, or Oamul Lu, a 28-year-old painter living in Xiamen in Fujian Province, created a fox named Feribo in a series of cute and fresh illustrations. His paintings are described as “healing” by his followers on Weibo.

Lu Mao used many soft colors in his painting. Light green plants with large leaves and pale pink flowers in full bloom all found their way into his illustrated world.

“Fox Feribo” is a story about unconditional love and change. How people change for their loved ones is illustrated through pictures in the book.

In the story, Feribo has a crush on a rabbit. She runs when he wants to say hello, yet Feribo still tries to make the rabbit like him.

Being pure and mild, Feribo’s love for the rabbit is not possessive but something similar to hope. This kind of affection may remind many readers of the meaning of true love: to give, not to require.

Lu Mao has already published “I Found a Star.”

His animated collection “The 24 Solar Terms” is also popular among readers.

    What are the main inspirations

    for your work?

I think everything I see in my life is an inspiration, including this recent journey.

You do a little bit of everything: GIFs, animations, paintings … what do you enjoy doing the most and why?

I like all these formats to present my ideas, I think they are all connected somehow. When I draw a painting I want to make it more lively and that’s why sometimes I turn my illustrations into GIFs. After that, I also hope they can become longer animations with a whole story behind them.

Could you name a few artists you like?

Two of my favorite artists are van Gogh and Oliver Jeffers. (SD-Agencies)
