Aussie couple has organic nuptials
    2016-June-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

HOME-BREWED beer, responsibly foraged flowers, recycled chairs and a wedding cake made by the bride herself.

When Kat Kleu, 30, and Michael Malone, 27, said they wanted a low-key wedding, they definitely weren’t understating their intentions.

Somewhat unusually for a wedding day, the couple, who were married in Tasmania earlier this year, focused less on celebrating themselves and more on enjoying a day with family and friends.

And in the process they produced one of the most beautiful organic weddings you’ll see — just how they both intended.

“It was super relaxed, because we had a lot of people flying in from the mainland it was basically about seeing family and friends and showing them where we’d been for the last two years,” Kleu said.

“We weren’t really into being the center of attention and just wanted something that was a nice, chilled-out celebration.

The lush, green bushland of the Tasmanian forest provided the perfect backdrop for the completely au naturale ceremony.

In addition to the homebrew, flowers and their wedding cake, the couple even had a hand in making blackboards from recycled paintings, creating moss balls for decorations and even building the arbor under which they said “I do.”

“We did almost everything ourselves,” Kleu said.

“I did the cakes and Michael did all of the homebrew. We foraged the flowers, dried the confetti, made the arbor and made the straw bales. Pretty much everything we made or got from family or friends.”

In keeping with the theme of the day, the couple both dressed simply, opting for bare feet throughout most of their special day.

Malone looked suave in rolled-up chinos, an open white shirt and tan suspenders, with his beard adding to his dapper look, while the bride looked a picture of elegance in a long-sleeved cotton dress from Alice McCall.

After being together for three years, the pair were engaged just three months before they got married

Having recently returned from their two-month long honeymoon in South East Asia, the nature-loving couple moved back to the mainland, again going bush with a home in the Blue Mountains.

Kleu said their stunning wedding photos would be life-long reminders of the couple’s special day.

“Mitch Pohl’s just the best, he actually photographed my sister-in-law’s wedding and I knew since then that if I was to get married he would be the one to do it,” she said.

“The whole day was just great. Yes, we got a little bit too drunk in the end but that’s fine. Everything went just as we’d hoped.”
