虐汪

    nuèwāng

    Meaning: "虐" means to "maltreat," and "汪" refers to a dog by mimicking its barking sound in Chinese. However, this term does not mean to "maltreat a dog." As Chinese young people call themselves "单身狗" (single dogs) in a self-mocking way, this term actually refers to couples' public display of affection (PDA) that often leaves singles feeling hurt.

    A: 你看到小明在朋友圈发的照片了吗？

    Nǐ kàndào xiǎomíng zài péngyǒuquān fā de zhàopiān le ma?

    Did you see the photos Xiaoming posted on WeChat Moments?

    B: 没空看微信呢。

    Méikòng kàn wēixìn ne。

    No, I haven't got the time to check it out.

    A: 他和女朋友去吃冰淇淋，又出来虐汪了。

    Tā hé nǚpéngyǒu qù chī bīngqílín, yòu chūlái nuèwāng le。

    He and his girlfriend went to eat some ice cream, and there is a lot of PDA in the photos.

    B: 秀恩爱，分手快！

    Xìu ēn'ài, fēnshǒu kuài!

    The more affection they display in public, the quicker they will break up.

    A: 别酸葡萄了。他的女朋友颜值真高呢。

    Bié suānpútao le。 Tā de nǚpéngyǒu yánzhí zhēn gāo ne。

    Don't be jealous. His girlfriend is very cute indeed.
