Dad makes Disney costumes for family
    2016-June-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WHILE most children dream of visiting Disneyland just once as a child, Nephi Garcia’s young family visit so often, the Princesses know them by name.

The talented 32-year-old father, from Florida, the United States, is known for the incredible costumes he makes for his family to wear to the theme park ... and they’ve been so popular, he now designs them for a living.

“A year and a half ago we were having a hard day and went to Disneyland and I decided to make a costume for my daughter Lili. She got so much attention that we decided to make an Instagram page — Designer Daddy,” Garcia said.

“People were calling me and commissioning me to make costumes for them and their own children so I quit my job as a retail manager to focus on doing it full time.”

Garcia was a couture designer for years and his work was featured in high-end fashion shows and published in Vogue Italy ... but the career wasn’t fitting with his family and he instead decided to focus on being with his family.

Now, Garcia spends his spare time designing incredible Disney-inspired costumes for his daughter Lili, 6, sons Eddy, 2 and Leo, 1, and his wife Bethanie, 27.

“We dress up a lot as a family ... I had no idea people could dress up at Disneyland and now we are hooked. We live 10 minutes south of Disneyland and went 128 times last year,” Garcia said.

“It’s getting really crazy now — we are well known at the park and the workers there greet us when we arrive.”

The family has stepped out in an array of incredible outfits — from an interpretation of the Aristocats and most of the Princesses to Peter Pan and Prince Charming.

“Peter Pan is Lili’s favorite as she has two — a normal look and a Peter Pan-inspired gown which she absolutely loves,” Garcia said.

“I am currently working on a transformation Beauty and the Beast dress and I’ve also been challenged to make a Princess Aurora dress that goes from pink to blue.

“I am also going to make a Dory costume that transforms from Nemo to Dory.”

Lili and her brothers are the stars of the show each time they arrive at the park, with their incredibly detailed and realistic costumes even earning them praise from the official characters.

“Lili has been told a few times by the Princesses that her dress is better and she loves that,” Garcia said.

Garcia spends 12 to 40 hours on each costume and tries not to stop sewing throughout the process so he can be as creative as possible.

After earning over 104,000 followers on his Instagram page and starting a successful business, Little Bright Dress, Garcia hopes to inspire others to pursue their dreams.

“If there’s one thing I could share from my experience is that if you want to follow your dreams just do it,” he said.(SD-Agencies)
