SOUTH KOREAN actor Kim Sung-min is brain dead after he attempted to hang himself Friday, Yonhap news reported.

    Kim, 43, fell into a coma after his failed suicide attempt and was pronounced brain dead by doctors at Seoul’s St. Mary’s Hospital on Sunday.

    According to Yonhap, Kim’s family “expressed a willingness to donate his organs” and the actor underwent surgery to have his kidneys, liver, intestines and corneas removed.

    Dr Yang Chul-woo at the hospital’s organ donation center said: “It is often the case that the bereaved family’s decision to donate organs comes too late, missing the golden time (to use the organs), but Kim’s family agreed in just two days.”

    In 2012, Kim was given a suspended 2 1/2 year jail sentence for drug consumption and was arrested for the same offence in 2015. He was subsequently jailed and was released from prison in January, reported Yonhap.
