On Friday night, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will present “Carmen Suite” adapted by Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin. Chinese percussionist and composer Li Biao will conduct the concert.
“Carmen Suite,” taken from the opera “Carmen” by Georges Bizet, is arranged for strings and percussion. Schedrin decided to use strings and percussion for the instrumentation and add some slightly different chords and notes in “Carmen Suite,” which will be a fresh surprise for the audience.
Li holds residencies in the Beijing Symphony Orchestra as a percussionist and conductor, and he is also a music director and principal conductor of the National Song and Dance Troupe. Li has cooperated with many famous orchestras.
