One-eyed cat is Internet sensation
    2016-July-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

AN adorable one-eyed cat in a wheelchair has managed to get himself a new set of wheels after becoming an Internet sensation.

Blacky, the grumpy looking moggy, has a legion of 38,000 fans after being hit by a car.

The sour-faced puss from Ashburton, New Zealand, was an instant hit when his owner, Louise Hopkins, decided to put his story on social media.

The 34-year-old described how her cat managed to crawl all the way home using only his front paws after the accident that left him with partial paralysis and spinal nerve damage.

Despite vets advising that Blacky be put down Hopkins wouldn’t give up on him, and now he’s won the hearts of thousands of dedicated followers who love to keep up to date with his daily antics.

Now Blacky, who celebrated his 10th birthday this year, has become an advocate for pets and humans with disabilities and illnesses.

Hopkins, a postwoman, said, “I’ve had Blacky since he was born, our bond is unbreakable.

“It broke my heart to find him cowering underneath our decking after he’d been run over, somehow he’d made it all the way home just by using his front legs.

“I was so angry that nobody stopped to help him, he must’ve been in so much pain.

“Vets urged me to put him to sleep after discovering he had spinal nerve damage and paralysis with no bladder function.

“He’d already lost an eye a few years earlier after a cat scratch caused an ulcer which later ruptured, I couldn’t believe how unlucky he’d been.

“Thankfully I didn’t give up on him though and a few weeks later he regained some feeling in his legs and full use of his bladder.

“After putting a post on a message board online outlining his story kind-hearted strangers started offering to help pay for the £350 (US$454) wheelchair to get Blacky back on his feet.

“Overnight his fan base began to grow and now he has over 38,000 followers on Facebook, it’s unbelievable.”(SD-Agencies)
