In my last lesson, I had a positive experience with my “experimental class on highly effective English learning strategy training.” Now I would like to show one example of applying the“taking risks wisely” aspect. One evening, as the wind blew gently, I was playing outside with my friends. Then, I happened to meet some foreigners for the first time. Neither my friends nor I dared to greet them at first, but after a while, I had courage to speak to them. “Hello, can I speak to you?” I asked carefully. “Sure!” they answered, to my surprise. “Where are you from?” I asked, using the sentence which had just been taught by my English teacher. “Oh, we’re from South Africa,” they answered with big smiles. “Where are you going?” a friend of mine asked shyly. “The hotel where we live!” they said. Then they asked my name and age, and I answered them one by one. However, they then said something I could not understand. “Sorry, my English is not very good. I didn’t understand you,” I said with a red face. “Oh, I think your English is very good!” they said while they laughed. After a while, they offered some drinks to us and left, saying “Good luck, little guys!” I felt pretty good at that moment, and I made a decision to keep striving to learn English well. |
