Meaning:
“夫妻” means “husband and wife,” and “相” means “looks.” People believe that when a couple live together for long enough, the husband and wife tend to look alike. In China, many believe that the marriage will last longer between a man and a woman who share similarities in appearance. And Chinese people like to flatter couples by saying that they’ve got “husband-wife looks.”
Example:
A: 陈妍希和陈晓这么快就结婚了。
Chényánxī hé chénxiǎo zhèmekuài jìu jiéhūn le。
Michelle Chen and Chen Xiao got married so soon.
B: 是啊,他俩挺有夫妻相的。
Shì a, tāliǎ tǐng yǒu fūqīxiàng de。
Yeah. They have got the so-called husband-wife looks.
A: 女生比男生大一点吧?
Nǚshēng bǐ nánshēng dà yīdiǎn ba?
The wife is a little bit older, right?
B: 大四岁。现在好流行姐弟恋呢。
Dà sìsuì。Xiànzài hǎo líuxíng jiědìliàn ne。
She is four years older than her husband. Dating someone older seems a popular trend for guys now.
