Manchester United, who boasts one of the biggest fan bases globally and has a strong history of support in China, will open the tournament in Shanghai against Dortmund on July 22.
Manchester City, winners of two of the past four Premier League titles, have continued to grow their profile in China through a number of initiatives. Notably, the Club recently announced a partnership with a China Media Capital-led consortium, which owns a minority share in the club’s parent company, City Football Group.
Playing in the first and last match, the German side will have an extended stay in China. Dortmund are famous around the world for the passion of their fans, attracting the highest average home attendance of any club globally. Their growing fan base in China will look to replicate this passion and scale in the stands in Shanghai and Shenzhen.
ICC was created by Relevent Sports and developed in Asia-Pacific by sister company Catalyst Media Group, and has revolutionized the pre-season touring experience for the world’s top international club teams. Since the premier edition in North America in 2013, the tournament has featured matches in the United States, Mexico, Canada, England and Italy, as well as full-tournaments in both Australia and the most in-demand sports market in the world: China.
