Jumper soars past Christ the Redeemer statue
    2016-July-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

EXTREME sportsman Jamie Flynn from London performed a jaw-dropping wingsuit skydive past the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil, capturing the city at its breath-taking best.

For a short documentary uploaded to the G-Form YouTube channel, Flynn’s journey upon arrival in South America is chronicled in full.

The 29-year-old BASE jumper and his team first have to wait out some uncharacteristic rainy days in the Brazilian city.

When the weather brightens up the all clear is given. Flynn says, “The nerves were quite intense when I got to the helly just because it was finally going to happen.

“Fear keeps you alive and that is what I always try and remind myself.”

The British wingsuit pilot is flown high into the sky, before the time finally comes to jump.

“Stepping onto the skids I took one huge deep breath,” he says, before there is no turning back.

Taking the plunge he swoops down through the sky and hurtles past the statue.

It all seems over in the blink of an eye as he opens his parachute for a safe landing.

All the while his faithful cameraman Sam manages to capture some awe-inspiring shots of the stunt and the surrounding area.

After the successful landing Flynn reflects: “That moment there I will never forget, we have just done everything we have come to Brazil to do.

“I feel privileged to be one of a handful of people to fly past Jesus. To see that point of view not everyone gets to see.

“And as we pass it the whole of Rio opens up and it’s one beautiful city.” (SD-Agencies)
