A traffic policeman warns a driver who misused a carpool lane on Binhe-Binhai Boulevard yesterday. Shenzhen’s first high-occupancy-vehicle (HOV) lane was put into official use yesterday and traffic police will start fining violators next Monday. Violators could face a penalty of 300 yuan (US$48) for using the lane, which is reserved for vehicles carrying at least two passengers, during rush hour. During the one-week grace period that started yesterday, violators will only be given verbal warnings. Trial operations on the lane started April 18.Xinhua
