Mackenzie Foy joins Disney’s new‘Nutcracker’ movie
    2016-08-03  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

“Twilight” actress Mackenzie Foy has been finalized to play the lead in Disney’s live-action adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffman’s “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.”

Foy has been tapped to play Clara. The 15-year-old actress joins Misty Copeland, who takes the role of a lead ballerina for the dance sequences in the upcoming fantasy film, reported Variety.

Mackenzie took to her Instagram page to express her excitement about the new role, saying: “I’m so excited and honored to be apart of this amazing film. A new adventure begins.”

Based on the popular Christmas Eve tale, the story is about a young girl who finds a Nutcracker doll among the family’s gifts and is charged by her parents to take special care of it.

Under the cover of darkness, the Nutcracker comes to life along with an evil Mouse King with seven heads, introducing the girl to the magical world of toys.

At just 15 years old, Foy has already carved out a solid resume thanks to her work in two “Twilight” films and her standout turn in Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi epic “Interstellar.” She stars as Renesmee Cullen in the “Twilight” films and plays the role of Murphy Cooper, daughter of Matthew McConaughey’s character, in “Interstellar.”

Foy spent four years voicing the “little girl” in the upcoming animated feature “The Little Prince” which premieres on Netflix Aug. 5.

Lasse Hallstrom is on board to direct the film. Mark Gordon produces the live-action project, with Lindy Goldstein executive-producing. Sam Dickerman and Allison Erlikhman oversee the project for Disney.
