3 villages in Shekou to be renovated
    2016-August-4  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THREE urban villages in Shekou will be demolished and renovated.

The three villages, according to the Shekou Subdistrict Office, are Yuyi and Yu’er villages, which are adjacent to Dongjiaotou Metro Station, and Dachan Village, which has already been sealed off.

A staffer from the Shekou Subdistrict Office, surnamed Zhang, told the Shenzhen Daily: “There are six villages in Shekou Subdistrict. Some of them have been renovated before.”

Zhang said: “China Merchants has invested 60 billion yuan (US$8.9 billion) in renovating the Sea World area. But I’m not sure how much it will put into renovating these urban villages.”

China Merchants Shekou Industrial Zone Holdings, possibly the project developer, held a forum recently to launch preliminary research on the renovation projects in Shekou.

According to materials provided by Zhang, an area of around 25,283 square meters in Yuyi Village will be demolished. The project was already in its initial stage, and has now started digging a foundation.

Residents who live in the renovated area of Yu’er Village, where 12,321 square meters will be dismantled, are now signing contracts with the developer. Yu’er Village is located outside Exit A of Dongjiaotou Metro Station, where seafood restaurants and dried seafood groceries can be seen scattered about.

As for the renovated area in Dachan Village, according to an earlier report by the Shenzhen Economic Daily, all the residents have already signed the renovation contracts and moved out.

Zhang said: “Since the ancient village already did not exist, the renovated area in Dachan is part of a place called Dachan Community.”

Seen on a map, Dachan’s renovated area is quite regulated, and now lies at the intersection of Huaguo Road and Shiyun Road, opposite the Shekou bus station. Most of the affected residents in Shekou, according to the materials, will be compensated financially.

Just a week before, the second administration directly under the Shenzhen Municipal Urban Planning, Land and Resources Commission announced a wharf renovation project.

A staffer, surnamed Li with the second administration that is in charge of urban planning, land and resources affairs in Nanshan District, told the Shenzhen Daily that the renovation projects in Shekou urban villages do not belong to the same project as the fishermen’s wharf. Currently, a blueprint of the wharf project is mapped out, but further discussions and negotiations will be needed to decide what developer will get involved. Li said a marine-themed space will be built at the wharf, but they have not yet decided what form the space will take.
