An absurdist Mandarin comedy entitled “Goodbye Mr. Loser” will amuse local audiences at Huaxia Art Center.
As one of Mahua Fun Age Productions Co. Ltd.’s best productions, “Goodbye Mr. Loser” centers on an unsuccessful man named Xia Luo. After he gets drunk at his ex-girlfriend’s wedding, he dreams that he goes back in time to his school years, takes revenge on his teachers, falls back in love with his ex-girlfriend and becomes a successful musician and writer.
Mahua Fun Age Productions is renowned among young Chinese audiences for its absurdist humor and use of catchy Internet phrases. Founded in 2003, Mahua Fun Age Productions has produced dozens of popular plays and musicals, including “Crazy Stones,” “Somali Pirates” and “Mt. Wulong Duke.”
Last year the play was adapted into the hit movie by the same name, which has grossed US$226.6 million in China and US$228.5 million worldwide.
