‘Madagascar Live!’ in nanshan
    2016-August-5  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

DreamWorks’ hit animated movie comes to wild life in the fun new family musical “Madagascar Live!” at the Nanshan Cultural and Sports Center.

The 110-minute theater show is based on the 2005 film, “Madagascar,” telling the story of four Central Park Zoo animals who have spent their lives in blissful captivity and are unexpectedly shipped back to Africa, getting shipwrecked on the island of Madagascar. It follows everybody’s favorite zoo refugees Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo, along with their intrepid pals — the penguins, from the concrete jungle of New York to the wilds of Africa.

Hit songs from the movie like “Best Friends” and “I Like to Move It” can be heard from the stage along with plenty of jazz, rap, samba and rock. This celebration of friendship is brought to vivid life with dazzling sets and costumes, action-packed adventure and spectacular new songs that inspire audience members to move it in the aisles.

Produced by DreamWorks Theatricals and Broadway Across America, the musical is directed by Gip Hoppe. Its costume designer is Gregg Barnes, a two-time winner of the Tony Award for Best Costume Design for his work on the Broadway productions of “The Drowsy Chaperone” (2006) and “Follies” (2011). David Gallo is the scenic designer, who also won the Tony Award for Best Scenic Design for “The Drowsy Chaperone.”

The “Madagascar Live!” tour started in January 2011 in the United States and continued in the United Kingdom in 2013. This is DreamWorks Animation’s second stage production following “Shrek the Musical.”
