BRITNEY SPEARS is back.
Following her new single “Make Me ...” (which debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100), Spears announced her ninth studio album, “Glory.” It is coming via Apple Music on Aug. 26.
The news came from Spears’ Twitter, along with the promise that this release is the “beginning of a new era” for the long-running pop princess.
Spears also announced that anyone who pre-orders “Glory,” available at midnight Wednesday, will get “Private Show” instantly. That track, which was teased last month, shares the title of her latest perfume.
Spears’ last album, 2013’s “Britney Jean,” boasted a signature hit with “Work Bitch,” but was otherwise the singer’s most disappointing effort. Aside from lukewarm fan response, it underperformed commercially, debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 — her lowest peak position for a studio album.
Since then, however, Spears’ celebrated run of Las Vegas shows have helped bolster her star power and renew interest in her career.
The former child star became one of the top-selling artists of the late 1990s with tracks such as “...Baby One More Time” and “Oops! ... I Did It Again,” whose clean-cut pop production belied the undertones of uninhibited teenage sexuality.
But her messy personal life quickly eclipsed her music career. She had a highly public breakup with fellow star Justin Timberlake, married twice in 2005 alone and was caught on camera nearly dropping one of her two children off her lap while driving.
But the now 34-year-old has found more stability with a residency show in Las Vegas, which debuted in late 2013.
