CHINESE actor Wang Baoqiang announced on Sina Weibo early yesterday morning that he will file for divorce from his wife Ma Rong after finding out she had an affair with his manager Song Zhe. Wang also said he will fire Song, who was close with Wang’s family and traveled with them in Australia for work and vacation, last September.
“I’ve kept my vows and tried my best to be a honest, loyal and loving husband since I married Ma Rong in 2009,” Wang said in his statement. “I’ve also worked hard to provide for my family, taking good care of my children and my in-laws. ...I’m upright and tolerant, but I cannot ignore betrayal in a relationship.”
Accusing his wife of having an extramarital affair with Song, Wang said he wants a divorce and will try his best to reduce the harm to his two children, ages 4 and 6.
Ma responded several hours later but simply said, “The truth will reveal itself in due time.”
The actor met his wife, 29, in Beijing in 2007. Ma was a student at Northwest University in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province at the time. The two married after a two-year courtship and Ma has been a housewife since. She gave birth to their son in 2010 and then their daughter in 2011.
Wang, 32, was born to a farmer’s family in Hebei Province. Practicing martial-arts since he was 6, he became a pupil at the Shaolin Temple in Henan Province at 8. Later, he went to Beijing to act as an extra in martial-arts movies.
His breakout performance came in 2003 as he took the leading role in “Blind Shaft,” for which he won a best actor award at the Fifth Deauville Film Festival in France and a best actor award at the 44th Golden Horse Film Festival in Taiwan. His performance in director Feng Xiaogang’s 2004 box office hit “A World Without Thieves” and his role in the popular TV series “Soldiers Sortie” 2006 made him a household name in China.(Debra Li)
