Russian long jumper bows out
    2016-August-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

RUSSIAN long jumper Darya Klishina admitted the turmoil of her Olympic buildup had taken its toll after she failed to qualify for the decisive rounds of the final.

Klishina, who was only allowed into the Games after winning a last-ditch case before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, on Wednesday could manage a longest effort of just 6.63m.

That left the 25-year-old outside the top eight who advanced to the final three rounds of jumping, eventually won by Tianna Bartoletta.

It completed a rollercoaster few weeks for Klishina, the only Russian track and field athlete in Rio to escape a blanket ban imposed by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

“I’m sure that I can jump further but I did not do a good practice because it was really hard mentally to do a regular practice as usual,” Klishina said.

Klishina had been allowed into Rio because she is based in the United States and underwent regular international doping tests. (SD-Agencies)
