TWO Shenzhen philanthropists donated a total of 1 million yuan (US$158,000) to the family of a young man who was recently stabbed to death while trying to stop thieves from stealing in neighboring Dongguan, the Shenzhen Evening News reported yesterday.
Chen Hongtian, chairman of the Shenzhen Harmony Club, and Li Xianyi, chairman of the Shenzhen Harmony Charity Foundation, each donated 500,000 yuan to the family of Wang Wang, a recent graduate who worked in the Internet industry in Dongguan.
The 20-year-old Wang, a native of Xinyang in Henan Province, graduated from Guangzhou Vocational College of Science and Technology this July. He worked on software development for an Internet company in Dongguan after graduation.
On the night of Aug. 9, Wang and his colleague, surnamed Zhang, saw two thieves pickpocketing a lady’s mobile phone at the Hongfu Road West bus stop in Dongguan’s Nancheng District. Wang approached to stop them, but the two thieves threatened and then stabbed him. Wang suffered serious injuries and died in the hospital in the early morning of Aug. 10.
Dongguan police are searching for the two fugitives, who were recorded by a surveillance camera.
The donations will be given to Wang’s family through the Shenzhen Harmony Charity Foundation and the Shenzhen Charity Foundation.
