Six detained for industrial park fire
    2016-August-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SIX people have been detained for a fire that took place in an industrial park in Longgang District on Friday, the Nanfang Daily reported yesterday, citing Longgang police.

A block of buildings at Yayuan Industrial Park in the Bantian area caught fire at around 10 p.m.. An initial investigation found that the fire was caused by defective batteries, which had been piled at the doorway of a technology company.

According to the police investigation, approximately 15 tons of batteries were stocked in the storage of the technology company located near the entrance of the industrial park. The batteries had gotten heated in the hot weather and eventually burst into fire that spread to a higher building next to it.

The six detained suspects, comprising the owners and executives of the technology company and the management company of the industrial park, were charged for gross negligence and criminal offense against public security, according to Longgang police.

The fire department dispatched eight squadrons to the scene. The fire was extinguished at around 1 a.m. the next morning. No people were reported injured or killed.

Fire pictures and videos, including a video of a frightening explosion and fire that engulfs a whole building, went viral on the Internet in the next few days. The Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau have refuted a rumor that the short video of an explosion and fire took place in Longgang, saying that the explosion at the burning building was in another city.
