AFTER a dog lost his best friend and fell into a depression, a duck came to the rescue.
George, a pooch living in Tennessee, the U.S., suffered the loss of his best friend, a Labrador named Blackie, two years ago. And, according to his owners, the dog hasn’t quite been the same since.
But a week ago, George’s owner Jacquie Litton was surprised to discover that her beloved pup had gained himself a brand new friend, one that had taken to waddling after and cuddling up to grieving George.
Watching the strange pair’s budding relationship, Litton snapped some photos and shared them on Facebook.
“We have no idea where this duck came from but he sure does love George,” she wrote. “And since the duck has arrived George has not cried one time.”
George and Blackie had been together for 12 years, and his owner said that he “has been heart-broken and has grieved with anxiety so bad that he has almost died twice.”
She told WVLT-TV Knoxville that the pooch was starving himself and developed painful skin conditions from chewing on himself.
She added, “It is strange for a duck to just appear at our house and be attached to your dog and even more strangely the anniversary week of Blackie’s passing.”
Seeing the effect that the bird was having on their George, Litton vowed to take care of the duck, “hoping that he stays around.”
Though it has only been a week since the duck appeared, the family claim that the difference in their beloved dog is already clear.
“As far as his name I am thinking Donald … after all we are a Republican Family!” she wrote.
Since the duck appeared, the unlikely pals spend their days together. The duck follows George everywhere, and even sleeps with him on his bed.
“Since the duck has showed up, he’s been fine,” Litton added to WKOW. “He’s not wanted in the house. He’s not whined. He’s not meeting you at the car, ya know, looking sad.”
