A: Did you break the window?
B: Now, 23 skidoo, before Mrs. Smith finds out!
Note: “23 skidoo” is an American slang phrase popularized during the early 20th century. It generally refers to leaving quickly, being forced to leave quickly by someone else, or taking advantage of a propitious opportunity to leave, that is, “getting out while the getting’s good.” The exact origin of the phrase is uncertain. One theory is that on the English race tracks, 23 was the limit on the number of horses allowed to start in one race. So “23” means that there was no longer any reason for waiting at the post. Skidoo is another slang term, meaning much the same as “skedaddle,” that is, “leave quickly.”
