    New Creature

    Forty contemporary art projects by 37 artists from eight countries and regions are exhibited at the OCT Art and Design Gallery. Themed “New Creatures,” the exhibition presents new art and designs that use materials in an unconventional or experimental way in the form of paintings, pictures, sculptures, videos and installations.

    Two shows at B10 Live

    Swedish post-rock band Pg Lost will play at B10 Live on Friday to promote their new album “Versus.” Huun Huur Tu, a music group from Tuva, a republic of Russia situated on the Mongolia-Russia border, will perform Saturday.

    Twins

    Hong Kong Cantopop duo Twins will give a concert Saturday at Shenzhen Bay Sports Center. Twins are made up of two girls, Charlene Choi and Gillian Chung. Their music is generally targeted at teens, but in 2004 they began to attract a wider audience by venturing into different styles of music. Since 2001, the group has released dozens of Cantonese/Mandarin studio albums, compilation albums and live albums.

    Shenzhen Museum

    Relics are on display at the “Maritime Porcelain Road” exhibition until Sept. 18. The 180 exhibits showcase Chinese pottery and porcelain dating back to the Han Dynasty and Chinese made-for-export porcelain with designs commissioned by European buyers. Meanwhile, paintings and calligraphy by Chinese master Huang Binhong (1865-1955) are on display until Oct. 23.

    HIT tech carnival

    Startup entrepreneurs, investors, graffitti artists and rock bands will gather for the HIT tech carnival in Bao’an District.

    Ukiyo-e exhibition

    Ukiyo-e paintings are on display at Bridge Gallery. The ukiyo-e genre of art flourished in Japan in the 17-19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints and paintings of such subjects as female beauties, kabuki actors, sumo wrestlers, scenes from history and folk tales, landscapes, flora and fauna and erotica. The term ukiyo-e translates as “pictures of the floating world.”

    Cheng Bi

    Chinese folk singer Cheng Bi will hold a concert Friday night. A Japanese-language graduate from Peking University, Cheng often composes songs by using poems of Bei Dao and Shuntarou Tanikawa as her lyrics and is acclaimed as a poetic songwriter.

    Andrea Petrlik Huseinovic

    Croatian illustrator Andrea Petrlik Huseinovic will give a talk at Shenzhen Book City on Saturday. Huseinovic graduated in graphic arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. She was awarded the Grigor Vitez award and the BIB (Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava) Gold Plaque for her book “The Blue Sky.” For the illustrations from Carlo Collodi’s “Pinocchio,” she was nominated for the IBBY Honor List 2002.
