Parents and their children prepare to start a charity run with Ronald McDonald, the mascot of McDonald’s, in Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center on Saturday. More than 3,000 Shenzhen residents have joined the 2-km run initiated by the global fast-food brand since 2014. The Shenzhen event was part of a nationwide charity event, which saw more than 35,000 people from 19 Chinese cities run on the same day, and raised more than 1 million yuan (US$149,254) for sick kids seeking medical care in cities far from their homes.
