代孕
    2016-September-6  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    Meaning:

“代” means “substitute for,” and “孕” means “gestation.” This term means “being a surrogate mom.” Although this is illegal in China, a small number of couples who cannot give birth would seek surrogacy through agencies that operate in underground markets. A South China Morning Post report said that the starting price for using a surrogate mom is 430,000 yuan in Shanghai. Paying 680,000 yuan will guarantee successful gestation in two years.

    Example:

    A: 小马和他太太闹矛盾呢。

Xiǎomǎ hé tā tàitài nào máodùn ne。

Xiao Ma is at loggerheads with his wife.

    B: 他俩不是挺恩爱的吗?

Tāliǎ bùshì tǐng ēn’ài de ma?

Haven’t they always been affectionate for each other?

    A: 他俩没孩子,他太太想领养一个,但是小马想找代孕。

Tāliǎ méi háizi, tā tàitài xiǎng lǐngyǎng yīgè, dànshì xiǎomǎ xiǎng zhǎo dàiyùn。

They don’t have children. His wife wants to adopt a baby, but Xiao Ma wants to use surrogacy to have his own child.
