Two top universities in SZ welcome thousands of freshmen

    The Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen held inauguration ceremonies to welcome freshmen on September 4. It’s the first time for the Harbin Institute of Technology,Shenzhen to enroll undergraduate students in Shenzhen.

    The ceremony for the Harbin Institute of Technology,Shenzhen was held at University Town in Xili, Nanshan, which was attended by more than 1,300 people, including Zhang Hu, standing committee member of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Zhou Yu, president of the university.

    The distribution of the 376 undergraduates at the Harbin Institute of Technology, Shenzhen this year was quite even, with 70 majoring in machinery, 65 in materials, 66 in computer technology, 67 in electronic information, 58 in civil engineering and 49 in economics.

    The opening ceremony for The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was attended by over 2,000 undergraduates, graduates, doctoral and international students as well as over 1,000 parents of freshmen.

    The university’s first Shaw College was also established.

    The 806 enrolled students of the university are from 22 provinces. The majors intended for undergraduates range from finance, accounting, international business, marketing, economics, statistics, mathematics and applied mathematics.

    As well, majors including finance, financial engineering, translation and simultaneous interpretation will be open to over 200 postgraduate applicants, with computer and information engineering to be open for doctoral applicants.
