A 6-MONTH-OLD boy in the U.S. showed off his water sporting skills as he claimed the record of world’s youngest waterskier.
Rob and Heather Absher of Falls Lake, North Carolina, say even though their son can’t crawl, he’s still ready and able to put on a custom-built set of waterskis and ride.
The couple built baby Auburn a custom trainer ski with PVC pipes, and wearing a mini-life jacket and a stone-cold gaze, the infant rides in the shallows like a pro.
The ski isn’t attached to a boat, though. It’s attached to Rob, 34, who’s pulling it in the water.
Rob runs at a full sprint with little Auburn holding on to his custom ski while Heather, 37, runs behind the tot.
“He’s got himself a death grip on that thing. His hands were not taped at all, he’s actually holding on, he’s got a real strong grip,” Rob told ABC News.
Rob said he always wanted to teach his child to waterski but his wife Heather needed some convincing.
“I’ve always dreamed of doing it even before he was born. My wife was not too for it — it seems worrisome for a kid to do it that young,” Rob said.
However, the family is big into water sports and said they took many precautions to teach Auburn how to ski.
Last weekend, at 6 months and 10 days old, Auburn got his chance to show off his skills.
The couple recorded the 30-second 150-foot (45-meter) ride and Auburn appeared to enjoy the thrill until he let go and his mother caught him.
