Skydiver dies after parachute fails to open
    2016-September-13  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A SKYDIVER who was killed after her parachute failed to open properly, died “doing what she loved.”

Pamela Gower suffered fatal injuries after crash-landing on a parked car in a housing estate in Shotton Colliery, County Durham in northeast England, on Sunday.

An eyewitness described how Gower became tangled in the ropes during the 15,000-foot (4.57-km) jump and devastated relatives today paid tribute to the 49-year-old, who described herself as a “crazy trainee skydiver.”

Gower, from Hebburn, South Tyneside, was taken to hospital by air ambulance where she died from her injuries.

Her cousin said she “lived life to the full” and died “doing what she loved.”

In June this year, the British Parachute Association gave the green light for Gower to use specifically adapted equipment for skydiving because she was unable to reach a standard ripcord on a parachute.

The organization was told the 49-year-old had “restricted growth (dwarfism),” and needed a specially modified rig.

Gower described herself as a “crazy trainee skydiver” on her Facebook page and shared a number of pictures of herself taking part in the extreme sport.

She hoped to qualify as an instructor.

In her profile picture she is seen grinning and dressed in parachuting gear with the caption: “Nothing makes me more happy than skydiving, can’t wait for the next jump!!!!”

Her cousin Anthony Cairns paid tribute to her online and said, “RIP Pamela Gower, we will all always love you so much.

“It is with great sadness I would like to share the unfortunate news that my lovely cousin Pamela Gower passed away yesterday afternoon after her parachute failed to open properly.

“She certainly lived life to the full that’s for sure.”

He added, “Just makes you are aware that you have to make the most of life as you have no idea when it is likely to be taken away from you.”

Gower worked as an employment adviser for Remploy, an organization that provides employment placements for disabled people.

A Remploy spokesman said, “We are shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Pam’s tragic accident.

“Pam worked most recently as an employment adviser in our Newcastle branch supporting disabled people into work.

“She had worked for the company for many years and was a valued and respected member of the Remploy team.

“Our thoughts are with her family, friends and work colleagues past and present. We will be offering whatever support is required at this very difficult time.”

The keen skydiver also spent her spare time fundraising, having recently raised hundreds of pounds for Cancer Research U.K.(SD-Agencies)
