A HIGHLY decomposed body found on the western peak of Mount Huashan in Shaanxi Province 10 days ago was confirmed to be the Shenzhen woman who had reportedly been missing for more than a month, Shaanxi police said Sunday.
A DNA test by the Huayi Public Security Bureau in Shaanxi Province confirmed the identity of Chen Wen, who lost contact with her family at the beginning of August. Chen’s father, a native of Hainan Province, reported to Shenzhen police Sept. 1 that his daughter had lost contact with the family after she told them she had arrived at Mount Huashan, one of China’s famous scenic spots. Mount Huashan was one of Chen’s travel destinations after quitting her job in Shenzhen on June 1.
The body was found Sept. 9 by a rescue team organized by local police. Chen had traveled to Yunnan, Sichuan, Tibet and Xinjiang. Flight information showed that Chen arrived in Xi’an, capital city of Shaanxi Province, on July 23. She took a train to Mount Huashan and arrived at the Huashan Railway Station at around 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1. She made her last phone call while on the southern peak of Mount Huashan on Aug. 2 before losing contact with her family.
No other details were available as Chen’s death is still under investigation. (Han Ximin)
