Hungarian pianist Ervin Nagy will present Rachmaninoff’s “Prelude in G Minor,” “Prelude in G-Sharp Minor,” “Prelude in B-Flat Minor,” Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata,” “Turkish March,” Liszt’s “Liebestraume,” “The Fountains of Villa d’Este” and “Dante Sonata.”
Nagy won first prize at the National Youth Piano Competition in Tarhos and third prize at the Porto International Piano Competition in Portugal in the 1980s. Since then he has performed solo and chamber music all over the world.
In 1990 he was awarded the Liszt-Cliburn Scholarship which enabled him to study further in the United States. After returning to Europe he was based both in Budapest and Salzburg until 2000 when he started teaching at F. Liszt Academy of Music. In 2001 he began composing music for video games and multimedia.
“Moonlight Sonata” is one of Beethoven’s most popular compositions on the piano, and it was a popular favorite even in his own day.
“Dante Sonata” was inspired by the reading of Dante Alighieri’s famous epic poem, “The Divine Comedy.”
